Electronic Tax Payment Options

In recent years, the U.S. Treasury and Alabama Department of Revenue have become more accommodating to different tax payment methods. While the availability of bank draft and credit card payment options is nothing new, these methods are now available for free. Instead of fighting the tax day traffic at the post office, you can now satisfy your tax payment obligations with a few mouse clicks and keystrokes.

You can enroll in the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System. Once you enroll in the service, you may make a single tax payment, schedule all of your tax payments for the year, or cancel any future payments previously scheduled. Additionally, you can review all of your tax payments for the previous 16 months, a handy feature for when it is time to prepare your income tax return.

My Alabama Taxes works pretty much the same way for Alabama taxpayers. From this website, you can schedule your Alabama estimated tax payments, review your tax payment history, and view and print copies of your last couple years’ Alabama returns. Both websites are surprisingly easy to navigate.

Again, each of these services is free, and you should be able to schedule payments immediately upon setting up your account. Nonetheless, if you would like to begin making your tax payments online, don’t wait until April 15th to set up your accounts.
